SC gives government two weeks to produce missing persons
Bolan Voice Report
While hearing missing persons’ case, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Chaudhry on Friday (last day of this month trip to Balochistan) gave a two-week deadline to the Balochistan chief secretary, the inspector general of police and the FC DIG to produce the missing persons before the court.
He said orders were issued to the president, the prime minister, the Balochistan chief minister, the defense and home secretaries but there was no response. The CJP is heading a three-member bench, comprising Justice Khilji Arif and Justice Tariq Pervaiz.
Justice Chaudhry warned that if the police failed to produce the missing persons then orders would be issued under the constitution. In a latest development, the court was informed that three missing persons reached their homes. They were identified as Muhammad Karim, Safar Khan and Dawa Khan. Relatives of another four missing persons informed the court that they were in the custody of FC. The court ordered the home secretary to recover the four people within two weeks.
Mother of Shabbir Sumalani said her son was whisked away by armed men soon after the Brewery police released him in 2009. The court ordered the SHO concerned to produce Sumalani within two weeks or submit a progress report. The court also issued notices to former CCPO Abid Notkani and former DIG (operations) Shahid Durrani in this regard.
Be remembered that during previous day’s court proceedings judges summoned Chief Minister Balochistan Aslam Raisani and Home Minister Zafar Ullah Zehri, but none of them appeared before court to inform about missing persons cause. Chief Justice expressed deep concerns and warned if authorities’ apathy go on, then they use other ways to provide justice to citizens.
Chief Justice in his remarks told, in Balochistan authorities are not taking interest about missing human issue, due to this here’s situation worst for human rights.
Reaching last reports several other missing Baloch also appeared on surface and they re-joined their families.
On other hand, Voice for Baloch Missing Persons Chairman Nasar Ullah Baloch said, institutes are giving lollypop and betraying relatives of Missing Baloch families’ members. He said on one side they release or bring few missing on surface, but on another side they abduct more people. They are cheating judiciary and other organizations.
The organization Voice for Baloch Missing Persons Vice Chairman Qadeer Baloch with other missing person family member established protest camp in front of National Press Club, Islamabad. Where during a press conference he said, “In previous days Karachi’s CID Police claimed for arresting 3 BLA activists and recovering of weapons, which is totally wrong, these persons who they are convicting terrorist, in real they are student of Balochistan University and they were abducted in beginning of this year. They have no prior history of contact with any kind of overt political or agitation activity”, he said.
“We have been camping in front of the National Press Club for 11 days, and will be packing up on Friday. No one has really visited us. We have only received threats from general-types,” says Qadeer Baloch, before saying that though he was happy that some media outlets had given those media coverage, he still felt that there was a long way to go.
