World book day 23 April
“In books a reader finds the wealth and wisdom of the world”
By Shamsher Jamaldani
Different days are commemorated and enjoy significance worldwide, but in my point of view world Book Day is the biggest celebration of its kind, anywhere. Millions and Millions of book venders given out, great free books for kids, excitement everywhere namely, on blogs, in newspaper on TV and in schools, libraries and, of course bookshops and people are coming together including lots of group readers in a big, loud, happy celebration of reading. All this will take place on Aril 23 throughout the world. Apparently, April 23 is a Symbolic date for world literature since April 21, 1616 was the date of death of Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors such as Macerice Druon, K Laxness, Vladmir Nabokov, Josep pla and Mejia Vallejo.
Initiated in 1995 by UNESCO, this date pays a worldwide tribute to books and their authorities. UNESCO hopes to encourage everyone, particularly young people, to discover the pleasure of reading and to gain a renewed respect for the irreplaceable contributions of those who have furthered the social and cultural progress of humanity. When people have no access to books and information, they are excluded from the world’s wealth and wisdom. People, communicate and organization needs universal and equitable access to information, ideas and works of imagination for their social, educational, cultural, democratic and economic well-being. The importance of books as irreplaceable sources of knowledge, ideas and innovations is universally recognized. In books we find the wealth and wisdom of the world. Similarly, the joys of reading books can’t be described in words. It’s something that you can understand only by actual experience. There is time aimlessly with latest technology products. Reading books makes you virtually feel relaxed and also exercises your brain is the process. But it is regretted that with revolution in technology, book reading his become obsolete and CD, DVD, and internet culture is becoming more and more popular. Even a trend of reading soft copies or e-books of printed books gaining momentum reading habits are changing across the globe, even resources have reduced the popularity of paper versions of newspaper. Technology has weakened the bound between the book and its readers.
Reading is an activity from which everyone gets benefits. It doesn’t matter whether you read fiction or nonfiction. Reading just thirty minutes every day improves vocabulary and helps you develop critical thinking and analytical skills, among a plethora of other benefits. Parents who read to their children not only develop strong emotional ties with them but also allow their children to develop richer children who read at an early age and show high level of creativity and are able to synthesize information and grasp conceptual skills helps them become more effective communicators, which increases their chances of getup into college. Reading requires a great deal of concentration and teaches readers to focus. Readers acquire knowledge about any number of subjects and can better process the information they digest. People with good reading skills also tend to develop good writing skills. They can take that focus and write clearly and effectively. Whereas reading is an excellent way to reduce stress and a healthy means of escapism, whether you read fiction or non-fiction, you will be entertained by learning about the quirks of a historical figure of being able to have a bird’s eye view of a scandalous fictional antihero so reading allows you to exercise your imagination and stimulates the right side of your brain. A book is regarded as person’s best friend and guide. Everybody may deceive you but books will always remain beside during your bad times. Since Ages, books have always been regarded as good companions as both good and bad phases of our lives. Sometimes are laugh or shed leaves with them and sometimes we forget the problems of our lives. Wherever we are little depressed, there are several books that boost us and encourage us and we get to learn from the writings of many great and famous personalities, how to recover from difficult situations.
A famous Chinese proverb says; “A book is like a garden carried in the pocket” though carrying a garden in one’s pocket is impossible, but that is the real thing about books. They are full of beauty; wonders and amazement. They are the storehouse of men’s experience, knowledge and wisdom of ages. Great is the blessing of books and happy is the man who acquires the habit of reading.
